Person Specification

• A musician with excellent musical qualifications and experience of working with amateur and professional musicians at the highest level.
• Experience of training and conducting amateur orchestras with differing levels of experience so rehearsals are motivating and enjoyable to all.
• Wide knowledge of the orchestral repertoire.
• Ability to work productively with the Orchestra’s committee to plan and prepare exciting and enjoyable future concerts.
• Ability to inspire and excite the Orchestra to tackle unfamiliar and challenging music.


Job Description

• Be responsible for the development of musical standards of the Orchestra.
• To ensure that the highest possible musical standards are achieved both at rehearsals and concerts, consistent with the Orchestra’s musical and financial resources
• Take all rehearsals on a Wednesday evening during School term and undertake additional rehearsals were necessary.
• Conduct all concerts in the season – currently 6.
• To make recommendation to the Committee for the engagement of soloists.
• To advise and assist the committee in the management of the Orchestra’s affairs.
• Provide a written schedule at the start of each concert season to include sectional rehearsals.
• Plan the programme for future seasons in collaboration with the committee.
